The Ultimate DIY Guide: Pokemon Cosplay for Boys and Girls!

Ash Ketchum DIY Cosplay

Ash Ketchum, also known as Satoshi in Japanese, is the main character and protagonist of the Pokemon animated series.  Ash has always dreamed of becoming a Pokémon Master and as soon as he hit the age of 10 he rushed to Professor Oak's Laboratory to get his first Pokémon. Originally wanting to choose Squirtle, Ash ended up getting the Pokémon Pikachu and left on his journey. Starting off as a completely unskilled trainer, Ash managed to go through, with the assistance of his friends Misty & Brock and capture new Pokémon and defeat the gyms in Kanto, allowing him to enter in the Pokémon League. Since then he has continued to travel, make new friends and capture new Pokémon while still following his goal of becoming a Pokémon Master. Since this goal is so close to his heart, he sometimes acts a bit rash and rushes to the next battle he can as fast as possible.

We will be doing a DIY cosplay for Ash Ketchum.  This DIY should not be as hard due to him being not only human, but have a pretty normal wardrobe.  Specifically, we will be focusing on his hat, hair, blue coat, pants, shoes and accessories.

Hat

Ash has a very specific looking hat.  Ash has a red hat with a white front.  The front also has a green symbol that looks like a crooked C.  There are many different types of hat vendors available that make this for really cheap. Or if you want to save even more money, get a red hat with a white front and use a green sharpie to color it in. Here are some good examples.

Hair

Ash has long black hair that goes to his neck.  It is jet black and is usually covered by his hat.  Because of that, it is simple to have this look! Using black dye for your hair works, however a wig can also be really useful if you don’t want to take that risk.

Top

Ash wears a blue jacket that has white sleeves. Because this is very basic there are a couple of ways you can work with this. Yes there are costumes available to buy and is easier. However, another option is to buy a blue sleeveless hoodie and wear a white shirt underneath.

Pants

Like any other Pokemon trainer, you will be going on a very long adventure. You will be hiking long roads, fighting gym leaders and stopping Team Rocket.  For this you will need a great pair of jeans! Ash rocks some light wash blue jeans, very much like the 90’s when Pokemon came out.  Find a great pair that makes you feel like a Pokemon Master.

Shoes

No trainer can go chasing Pokemon shoeless! Or maybe you can? Anyway Ash is not one to fool around being shoeless! He needs to be the Pokemon Champion! And to do that he needs the best pair of running shoes around. Converse will be the best as it resembles the shoes Ash has.

Accessories

Now that we got most of the cosplay down, all we need is the finishing touches. Finding green gloves can be tricky, but if possible find white ones and dye it green if you must take that extra step.  If not you do not have to use gloves. Also find a nice brown belt to add that extra feel. If you have the extra time and money and want to spice your cosplay to the next level, buy some custom made gym badges

And there you go! You are now an official Pokemon Champion! Well...not technically but let’s hope Ash will be one day! Keep on catching all those pokemon! Be safe out there and set out to save the world!

MISTY DIY COSPLAY

Misty is a friend and former traveling partner of the anime's main character, Ash Ketchum. After he stole her bike and proceeded to accidentally destroy it in Pokémon - I Choose You!, Misty followed him around the Kanto region, Orange Archipelago, and Johto region, using the time she spent with him to further her goal of becoming the greatest Water Pokémon Master. At the end of the original series, Misty's bike was returned and repaired by the Nurse Joy of Viridian City, and as her sisters were leaving on a world tour, Misty stayed at the Cerulean Gym as its leader in order to keep it open. In the game, she is  a Gym Leader of Cerulean City's Gym, known officially as the Cerulean Gym. She gives the Cascade Badge to Trainers who defeat her in battle. She specializes in Water-type Pokémon.

We will be doing a DIY cosplay for Misty.  This DIY should not be as hard due to her being not only human, but also having a pretty normal wardrobe.  Specifically, we will be focusing on her hair,  top,  shorts, shoes and accessories.

Hair

Misty has orange short hair that she puts to the side with a blue rubber band. If you already have orange hair, this part is easy, but if you do not a wig would be best! There are many

Misty wears a cute yellow short tank as she roams around the pokemon world.  Find a cute yellow tank top that matches you and have fun!

Misty also owns a pair of red suspenders that connect her top to her shorts. Don’t forget to add that extra touch of color!

Shorts

Misty wears a cute pair of jean shorts that vary from dark blue to a blueish-green pending on what season from the animated series. Find a pair that is super comfortable and go on your pokemon adventure.

Shoes

Last but not least Misty needs a good pair of running shoes to catch all of her favorite water pokemon. It may be hard to find a red shoe with yellow stripes in that pattern, so a red converse isn’t too bad either.
