"I...I love you with all my heart!...If you were to stay here with me, there would be no regrets...Because every day we'd do something fun, we'd be happy, I swear!...I would do anything for you! So...Please just stay with me!"
- Haruno Sakura (Naruto)

The first of many heartwrenching love confessions in Naruto. Sakura's words echo a purity, because she means every word, but it also reflects the naivety of her character in this story arc, how much she doesn't quite understand, but also how much she's willing to give and hurt for Sasuke. It's genuine, and stays true through the entirity of the series. Because love does hurt, but wouldn't it hurt more for that person you hurt for to be gone from your life?

"Kurosaki-kun, you know I had a lot of things I wanted to do...I want to be a teacher...I also want to be an astronaut...And also make my own cake shop...I want to go the sweets bakery and say, 'I want one of everything'...Ohhh, I wish I could live five times over. Then I'd be born in five different places, and I'd stuff myself with different food from around the world...I'd live five different lives with five different occupations...And then, for those five times...I'd fall in love with the same person..."

- Inoue Orihime (Bleach)

This quote really emphasized the scene. Orihime, about to be abducted, to leave her life behind to make sure her friends and loved ones were safe, is given one chance to say goodbye to one person. And she chooses the love of her life. This heartfelt, heartbreaking confession and farewell wrapped up in a sad package couldn't have been made more painful by sleeping Ichigo's cluelessness as her tears fall onto his hand....I'm going to need another box of tissues...

"Since ancient times, the dragon has been the only beast to equal the tiger. Even if you're not by my side right now, I will leap through space and time and always be by your side. These feelings will never change."

- Ryuuji Takasu (Toradora!)

After spending months trying to get each other to date their secret crushes, Ryuuji Takasu and Taiga Aisaka finally realize their true loves are each other. They nearly elope, until Ryuuji decides that running away wouldn't solve anything. However, Taiga decides to return back to her home to live with her mother and try to repair their relationship, leaving Ryuuji without a warning. Ryuuji pledges to wait for her, showing how deep his love is for her and how strongly she trusts him in return. Anyone about to be apart from their loved one would want to express their feelings in such a romantic way!

"No matter which love line, what time, or where I am, I will always love you. I'll say it one more time, I love you."

- Okabe (Steins; Gate)

After jumping through multiple world lines, Okabe confesses to Kurisu that he loves her in all of them. However, he is the only one that retains the memories from the other lines; the Kurisu he is speaking to has not shared the same experiences. This final scene shows that the love Okabe has for Kurisu crosses time and space. No matter where or when Okabe goes, he will always look for Kurisu. We might not be able to go back in time and create new world lines, but we can all appreciate how love remains constant when everything else changes.

"If you love someone, he could make you sad. He could even make you feel lonely sometimes. But that someone can also make you happier than you’ll ever be…."

- Saki Hanajima (Fruits Basket)

Saki may not be talking about romantic love in this scene, but she is describing the love for her friend Tohru. For a moment, Saki thought she was losing Tohru to the Souhmas and began to feel lonely, thinking Tohru had forgotten about her. But when Tohru came to visit because she was worried about her, Saki realized they are always looking out for each other and protecting each other from afar. We all know how much pain love can bring, but the happiness can come with it can be so much greater. That's always the risk you got to take, all in the name of lov

"After all.. love is all about timing..If you don’t say the right thing at the right moment no matter how much fate was involved in the relationship, everything will be ruined. Even if you regret it, it’ll be too late."

-Takeuchi Masafumin (Bokura Ga Ita)

Takeuchi Masafumin has a great point on love. If you love too early, it may be infatuation. If you love too late, the feelings are already fading. Takeuchi didn't confess his own feelings toward Nanami because of all the trouble that would come after. She already loves another guy. Takeuchi unfortunately doesn't get his own happy ending in the series. :(

"I’ll always be by your side, just like the wind that flows through your hair."

- Yagami Kazuma (Kaze no Stigma)

Wow. This quotes gets to me. Yagami Kazuma says this to Ayano Kannagi with heartfelt emotions. Through the bickering and the flirting of their training and travels, Yagami Kazuma won the heart of Ayano with a nice buttslap and a kiss on her neck. PHEEEEW. Just thinking about this gets me wired.

"It's Equivalent Exchange! I'll give you half my life, so you give me half of yours!"
- Edward Elric (Full Metal Alchemist)

Perhaps the most awkward proposal in history, but throughout the pain, suffering and loss Ed and Al had faced, this not-so-romantic quote spoke volumes to Winry Rockbell, the wrench-throwing love of Ed's life, as well as to the hundreds and thousands of fans of this heart-wrenching series. It also helps that this quote DID win Japan's most romantic proposal question! NO, I'M NOT KIDDING! GO LOOK IT UP!

"I used to always cry and give up...I made many wrong turns...But you...You helped me find the right path...I always chased after you...I wanted to catch up to you...I wanted to walk beside you all the time...I just wanted to be with you...You changed me! Your smile is what saved me! That is why I'm not afraid to die protecting you! Because...I love you..."

- Hyuuga Hinata (Naruto)

Love transforms people. It strengthens people. And this quote, this scene, where Hinata confesses her love to Naruto, in the face of death, shows just how far her mettle has grown. From the girl who hid away to just watch people to a young woman standing on the front lines, laying her life down for the man she loves, this quote was one of the series' most telling of how love can change a character.

"Even if I lose this feeling, I'm sure I'll just fall in love with you all over again."

- Syaoran Li (Cardcaptor Sakura)

For every little girl who was a big CLAMP or mahou shoujo fan, this line was beautiful. A true love confession from the admirably calm, cool and stoic boy,it was like a dream come true...The romance, in true CLAMP fashion, just OOZES from these words...

"Trying to shoulder the burden all by yourself? Don't be a stranger. Weep and ask for help. Lean on me with your runny nose. Cry when you feel like crying. Laugh when you feel like laughing. When you're tearing up with an ugly face, I'll give you a good cry with an uglier face. When you're laughing so hard your stomach hurts, I'll laugh in a louder voice. That's how it should be. It's far better to get dirty while living true to yourself, than to throw away yourself and die a clean death."

- Sakata Gintoki (Gintama)

These are comforting words from Sakata Gintoki during the Red Spider Story Arc of Gintama. His love interest Tsukuyo was caught in a web by Jiraia the Spider, her master. Sakata Gintoki manages to slice through the spider threads in which Tsukuyo was encompassed in and slashing Jiraia hands in the same stroke. He says this quote to make sure that Tsukuyo isn't brainwashed by Jiraia's philosophy of finding enlightenment by being cold and heartless, killing everything that is close to you. Gintoki wants to make sure that Tsukuyo stays humane!

"You were always there for me, and that’s all I needed. Just you. For some reason, I didn’t feel sad or broken up, it just didn’t seem real. But slowly I realized it was real – that you were gone. And little by little, I slowly felt something inside me go numb."

- Jet Black (Cowboy Bebop)

Jet returns to his home planet and reunites with his ex-girlfriend, recounting the day she left him and asks her why she left him. This melancholy conversation with Elisa refreshes the heartbreak as Elisa responds with "I've forgotten about it." We can all commiserate with Jet in our heartbreaks; sometimes you don't realize what you had until it's too late, and sometimes it feels as though one person hurt more than the other in a break up. While the pain can be unbearable, it only shows how real the feelings had been.

"It’s not that you can fall in love with someone new because you forgot the old. It’s because you fall in love with someone new that you’re able to forget about the old. Only love can heal a heart that was hurt by love."

- Takeuchi's sister (Ayaka Takeuchi)

This is also great advice on love. Takeuchi's sister understands that love is fortunate and unfortunate at the same time. You do so to not necessarily replace the old but keep your mind onto better things. The past will be the past! The only thing to mend a broken heart is to use the same thing that broke it. Interesting thoughts!

"I too am alone. It’s sad being alone. It’s painful. I felt that way too. But if we’re together, at times we may hurt each other, and we may even part. But, that is not the end. I’ll always be with you."

- Hitomi Kanzaki (Vision of Escaflowne)

It is indeed sad being alone. It gets to you. The solitude. The loneliness. The thought of thinking forever self reflecting. But as Hitomi Kanzaki says, you're not alone! Someone will always be with you. Even if conflict occurs, unconditional love will be at your side. Always.
