The Top 10 Best Romance Animes With Lots of Kissing

Sparks Are Flying-The Top Ten Best Romance Animes With Lots of Kissing

Can you remember what your first kiss felt like? Or, if you are still waiting to be kissed, what do you imagine it to feel like? For some, it was messy and awkward. For others it has been or will be the kiss of a lifetime. But having the experience itself is great, and a big part of growing up. It also can be the start of a beautiful relationship. That is what makes anime kisses so wonderful- they make you think of the sparks you get around your crush or partner. They make you feel tingly with delight and joy as characters kiss.

Anime kisses are like no other. They aren't like the ones we see in regular movies and TV- they are more dramatic. They take a gesture of love to a whole new level. Characters often feel bliss, embarrassment, or a combination of the two. It is very similar to how many of us might feel.

The romance of an anime brings a whole new facet to an already amazing story. And the best part is, it is something we all can relate to. We have all gone to school and struggled with exams, friends, and sports. And then, on top of that, we get feelings for a classmate, which can make for some crazy situations. It feels like nobody knows what you're feeling, but then you turn on a great slice-of-life series or school club story and it feels like you're among friends. Even if it is an anime that focuses on the supernatural, a kiss is something we all know about in our “real world.”

So, what should you watch if you want to feel the sparks? We've selected ten animes with maximum lip-locks, so you can find out.

10. Sakura Trick-Making School Memorable

Sakura Trick is an anime that is easy to watch, and makes you love each character in their own way. The love is definitely present when you jump into this anime. It is set in a high school setting, which we all know about. The way that the two main characters, Haruka Takayama and Yuu Sonoda, are best friends, is easy to understand and appreciate.

With the hustle and bustle of high school life, and the new friends that come along with it, Haruka becomes jealous of Yuu. They want to solidify their friendship by doing something they'd never do with any of their other school friends by kissing one day in an empty classroom. What began as a means to make their friendship stronger turns into a relationship changer. Add to the mix a nosey older sister, and you have an anime you won't want to end.

9. Campione! -Making Romance Divine

Campione is nothing like Sakura Trick, especially with the settings. But you will certainly love the characters, especially Erica. She won't take no for an answer.

So, imagine you're a god slayer. Imagine you've got the job of taking out gods who try to get in on your turf. Now imagine you got this job as a result of beating the God of War in a mortal battle. Pretty serious responsibilities, right? Not always. You might just wind up with more than you bargained for. That is just the case in Campione, a 12-episode series about Kusanagi Godou, whose status as a demi-god brings out some rather overly enthusiastic worshipers.

Aside from the romance that sparks among the characters, you will also enjoy the fantasy action that this series brings.  A kiss after every battle is definitely appreciated in our book, as well as the character Erica. She outright professes her love for Kusanagi, creating awkward and sometimes funny moments.

8. White Album 2-Making the Music of Love

Like Campione, this series was first published a previous format. Campione was a light novel; White Album 2 was a visual novel. The characters are interesting and talented, and they will keep drawing you in episode after episode.

In this 13-episode series, you will first meet Haruki Kitahara, a musician whose school club is nearing its end. He is in his third year of school and wants to perform in the school’s festival. But with his club disbanding, that doesn't seem to be an option. But a girl named Setsuna Ogiso appears and will change everything.

Aside from the great music you will hear in this series, you also have a love triangle to contend with and complicated relationships to explore. Expect a clash of emotions and an interesting plot with dynamic, relatable characters.

7. Citrus-Love Under the Same Roof

Citrus is an anime that draws viewers in with gorgeous animation and a storyline like no other. What if your first kiss happened on the first day at your new school?

Citrus is a high school anime an ordinary-enough plot. The first girl we meet, Yuzu Aihara, is new in town. She is going to a new school as her mother recently remarried. She dresses how she likes, and stands out in her strict, new all-girls school. On her first day, she meets Mei, who gets very close to her in a way not like other girls normally do. Upon arriving home, Mei is there, as she is literally her own step-sister. A kiss literally happens moments later- and the series is set off like a firecracker.

This series is anything but normal, and the relationship is definitely unconventional. But the beautiful, colorful animation and character development are worth it. We have all experienced confusion in relationships, and this makes it so relatable.

6. Kiss x Sis-Controversial but Funny

This anime is a bit different from the other ones, and yet similar in some ways. While many of these animes focus on high school students going after others at their school, this series opts for controversy in its approach. Still, worry not! You will enjoy it, as others have. It has “kiss” right in the title.

Keita Suminoe is a student in his third year who has always been close with his stepsisters. As kids, they always supported and played with one another. But as time goes on and people change, the step-siblings begin to see each other in a new light. Keita refuses to accept Ako and Riko’s advances, refusing to see them as anything more than family members. His attempts to avoid their advances are often funny, and they get poor Keita into some crazy situations.

Characters at times feel a bit underdeveloped, but it’s purely an anime designed for those of you that want a serious focus on love and lust, and the often-confusing feelings that accompany it.

5. Sukite li na yo. -When Good Comes from Bad

Many of the animes we've discussed have been pretty lighthearted. Now we will take a turn into a bit of a serious place, but still worthy of a watch.

The easy to follow and yet interesting plot, and the characters of Sukite li na yo. are what will make you stay.  When Mei Tachibana was blamed for a class pet death she did not commit, she shied away from other humans. This held true into high school, and when the popular, handsome Yamato tries to get closer, she opposes him. But the problem here is that Mei has a stalker, so Yamato kisses her to make him get away. This kiss leads to Mei getting feelings for Yamato and starting a relationship that blooms like a lotus.

This series’ beautiful artwork and sweet story will make it worth your while and leave you feeling good. This anime blends the dark times with the light and is well worth your time to see how it ends.

4. Amigami SS-Holidays with a Twist

When winter holidays come around, we all have different feelings. Some people get lonely. Some people feel joy and togetherness. Others have bad memories associated with that time, like Junichi Tachibana. He was stood up on a date two-years earlier on Christmas Eve, and it hurt him. This is a nice series as it has a male protagonist, and many of the series we’ve covered feature female leads.

If you need to feel good around the holidays, check this anime out. Junichi turns his luck around as he is met with not one or two but six girls at his school that all interest him. They are all different and lovable in their own way, and viewers will have fun choosing their favorite for Junichi. There’s Haruka, an upper-class student who loves all things kawaii, Sae Nakata, who is shy around boys, Rihoko Sakurai, who loves sweet things, Ai Nanasaki, the swimmer, Kaoru Tanamachi, a friend from childhood, and Tsukasa Ayatsuji, who is sweet but has a dark side.

Junichi himself is a rather sweet and kind lead, although he can be a bit of a perv at times. This is often used as comic relief. The story is great, but the character development tends to be a bit lacking, so keep that in mind. However, you will love the music-the opening theme, “I Love,” is definitely one to enjoy.

3. Strike the Blood-The Unexpected Gem

Strike the Blood is that anime your friend tells you about, and you politely play it off. You want romance, not action. But this has both. Action? Yes. Girls? Yes. A high school student whose life has changed drastically? Check.

If you need a mix of high-octane fighting and supernatural abilities, and you like harem animes, this one's for you. You’ll get everything you wanted and more with this series.

Kojou Akatsuki is a typical high school student attending class in the Demon District of Itogami Island when a chance encounter with a predecessor leaves him with more than he bargained for-he’s now a vampire. A VERY powerful vampire, we might add.

His power is so great that an organization within sends him a monitor named Yukina Himeragi, tasked with killing him should he become too powerful. The action coupled with the way this anime placed these two characters together is not forced, but an enhancement to the story.

The anime is unique, and its story can be viewed by some as a risk. The blending of action and romance is a delicate one, and to make it a visual treat on top of all that is just icing on the cake. Don’t let this one pass you by.

2. Yamada-Kun and the 7 Witches- Extra-Special Afterschool Activities

Here is a series fans all over the world have flocked to, and you will too. It started as a manga in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine and now is a 12-episode series.

You get all the regular good stuff that comes with a high school anime and then some- struggles with grades, an accidental kiss from a fall down the stairs, and the ability to switch bodies by way of a kiss. This leads main characters Ryuu and Urara to join the Supernatural Club at school, where seven girls who have powers activated by a kiss reveal themselves.

Fans especially love the comedy here, but the opening sequence and the animation itself are really what sets this anime apart.

1. Renai Boukun-Kisses Are Funny

Love is serious. But more often, it’s seriously funny. We put this one at the top because it features a reference to a popular series you may have heard of called Death Note. Have we got your attention? Okay, great. Because not only are you going to enjoy the romance, but you’re going to want a laugh after the previous nine we’ve covered.

As the story goes, Guri is a supernatural girl who falls for Seiji Aino. Aino is that guy who kisses lots of girls (on accident) and wants to date the beauty Akane Hiyama...but then he learns she is quite the yandere. Add in some more hilarious characters, riffs on anime romance tropes, and plenty of exaggerated characterization, and you have a comedy with all the kissing and laughter you could ever want.

No, you aren’t going to get sucked in due to a deep, well-fleshed out plot. But you will stick around for the hilariously executed characters, art style (we love the way Guri is drawn) and jokes you’ll understand from being a true anime fan. It’s unlike the others, but worth your time. Make sure to breathe in between laughs!

Hopefully, this list has given you some options about what to look for when you choose your next anime. The series provided here offer something for everyone. Romance and finding the way through the awkwardness and joy that is kissing is hard enough, but you can take solace knowing it happens in anime, too. Whether you are looking for the fantastical or the slice of life, or even just an excuse to laugh, you’ll find it here.
