Top 5 Toxic Boyfriends in Anime
A boyfriend is supposed to be sweet, caring, considerate, and protective. But, sometimes while on our journey of life, we always have to encounter undercover toxic devils who we once thought were innocent. The man presented in this list represents the famous saying “a wolf under sheep's clothing”.
When explaining male toxicity to someone, you can’t describe the word “toxic” with a vague response. Simply because there are levels to this shit, therefore, I will be explaining my five versions of male toxicity.
5. Takumi Ichinose - Nana
The last version of male toxicity is Takumi, the type to tell you off the bat that he is a womanizer and not the best partner for you. We respect an honest toxic male. On other hand, he is also the type that revokes the women he is seeing from being involved with another man. Only Takumi can hoe around and live his best life, whereas the women have to be committed to him only. Takumi became possessive towards his puppets once realizing other individuals besides him wanted to play. This became the case with him and Nana, as soon as he found out about her hidden pregnancy, he immediately took charge but for his convenience. Nana was dating someone else after her break up with Takumi by the name of Nobuo. Nobuo was the polar opposite of Takumi, especially financially. Takumi knew that he could provide for the baby while Nobuo was financially incapable and manipulatively convinced Nana that Nobuo was not suited for the job. Nana, realizing this, decides to choose Takumi over her lovely Nobuo. Also, before Nana being pregnant, Takumi would have her stay in a little apartment and promising one day he would announce their relationship but his reputation came first. When in reality, Takumi just wanted to have his cake and eat it too.
4. Motoharu Yano - Bokura Ga Ita
This anime is a Hidden Gem that didn't get talked about in the past and that's why I’m here to shed light on it. Yano is the type of man that can't get over his dead ex and uses other women to get over it. Yano meets an innocent and loving girl who just so happens to have the same name as his ex, Nana. Nana admired Yano's mysterious aura, whereas he adored her innocent act. The two end up being lovers but Yanos' past slowly starts making its way to the happy pair. Yano constantly compared the two ladies thus becoming a burden to his current relationship with Nana. This girl was practically in competition with a dead person and would think her love for Yano would win him over. Not only that, Yano accidentally confuses Nana for her ex and dared to be upset when she called things off with him because of his unwillingness to completely let go of his past. Yano knew he was toxic which is why he would continuously tell Nana that he does not accept her breaking up together and their still lovers. Hands up for all the ladies that have dealt with a man similar to this, I know I have. In case you didn’t know, Yano slept with his dead ex sister soon after her death, that’s just disgusting and desperate.
3. Sasuke Uchiha - Naruto
Sasuke is the type of boyfriend to treat you horribly in a relationship but confuses that with affection. Now, Sakura and Sasuke were not together during the times he treated her unfairly, nevertheless, that does not discount his toxic ways. Sasuke at some point was willing to kill Sakura despite them once being comrades. Sasuke would remind Sakura that she was the weakest link out of the three of them. He always felt that Sakura was annoying and weak. However, after turning soft, he decides to marry Sakura and bear children with her. I've always felt bothered by this specific couple and I know I’m not the only one. Think about it, a girl he never once paid attention to, looked down upon, and once tried to kill became his wife? I do not think Sasuke has hard feelings for Sakura but married her for convenience perhaps? Sakura despite almost being killed by his hands accepted all his flaws and maybe that's why Sasuke stuck with her. It's a big possibility Sasuke feels like he owes Sakura that much because of the harm he has done to her in the past. Obviously, he cares for her but, not in that loving way. That's honestly toxic because both parties are together for all the wrong reasons. To this day, I’m still bothered by Kishimoto pairing them up together. These two being a pair sends the wrong message to the viewers. For instance, it glorifies an abusive relationship or that a once toxic man can change.
2. Makoto Itou - School Days
Makoto is the type to be a womanizer, cheater, and liar to the highest degree. How does one get the girl they were obsessing over, get bored of her, and cheat on her but never officially dumps her? While cheating on his girlfriend Kotonohona, he begins an affair with Sekai who he considered a close friend. See ladies never trust women your men are friends with. Here's the catch though, he never officially breaks up with Kotonohona but started a whole new relationship with someone? Who does that? Now he's apparently with Sekai and it doesn't stop there. Makoto couldn't get enough women and began messing around with Sekais's social group behind her back! This man has no remorse for the damage he is doing. He is just a serial cheater and liar, constantly thirsting for more and never appreciating what he has in front of him. Makoto is truly your typical fuckboy that is narcissistic and selfish to the fullest degree. In my opinion, he isn't even attractive, and yet the ladies are obsessed over him! The creator gave a basic character the privilege to have many women fighting over him.
Light Yagami - Death Note
Light is the type of man to manipulate and use you to his convenience. This is why I don't know what the girlies aka Misa love about him if you ask me. Misa is willing to die for a man that will sacrifice her if it means saving his ass! Light's ultimate goal is to gaslight, mentally abuse, and use to his heart's content. Misa being slow does not realize the devil in disguise. She believes Light is the “light” in her eyes and I feel bad that she's all about a man that uses her when it's beneficial. For christ's sake, he treats L better than his actual girlfriend. Light even says that she wasn't his type because she was lacking intelligence in that head of hers. Not once has he claimed he ever loved her nor was he affectionate with her. Light is so toxic and selfish that he was willing to let Misa go to prison because of his sneaky ways.
